Hurricane Milton

Hurricane Milton, which rapidly intensified into a Category 5 storm, has become one of the most powerful hurricanes of the 2024 Atlantic season. After reaching peak winds of 180 mph, it made landfall in Florida on October 9, as a Category 3 storm near Siesta Key, south of Tampa. The storm caused widespread destruction, with heavy rainfall, powerful winds, and life-threatening storm surges. Rescue efforts are ongoing, as at least 16 fatalities have been reported across Florida.
Milton’s rapid intensification was fueled by very warm sea surface temperatures and favorable atmospheric conditions. It is now moving offshore into the Atlantic, gradually weakening but still posing a threat with strong winds and flooding in its path.

The following blog will compare Hurricane Helene and Milton.
